Chapter 4

If Maya knew that going on unpaid leave would mean meeting Kyle earlier, she would have considered screwing up a whole lot earlier. This was the first time in a really long time that she was waking up in a bed that was not her own or Riley’s. She could have sworn that she would have been freaked out if it ever happened again but somehow, she was just relaxed. Simply relaxed. She had just rolled over to see an empty spot where Kyle had been lying next to her. Just then, Kyle who was wearing a pair of pants walked in. Maya thought he looked at his perfectly chiseled torso.

“You are already up,” he said as he walked in carrying a tray. She could smell the fresh crispy bacon and something delicious that she could not really place. But she soon realized that it was all the different aromas that confused her senses. “But then I guess that this is perfect timing then, right?” he asked as she pulled herself to a sitting position, careful not to tip over the over-bed table he had so carefully positioned on the bed.

“I guess it is,” Maya said in a low whisper.

He sat down on the edge of the bed and leaned forward to kiss her softly on the lips.

“Good morning,” he said when he pulled away and she smiled.

“Good morning,” she said. “This smells great.”

She looked down at the tray that he had put on the over-bed table.

“Crispy bacon, fried Italian sausage and spicy eggs. Something I learned from my housekeeper.” He pointed at the juice and coffee. “I didn’t know what you prefer for breakfast so I brought you juice and coffee and a side of toast just in case you choose to go with the coffee.”

“Oh wow,” Maya said when she took a bite of the eggs. “I should sleep over more often.”

Kyle looked at her and smiled.

“I wouldn’t mind that,” he said in a low voice.

“But I think that might not be so bright,” Maya started as she took another bite of her eggs. “I really need to watch my weight.”

“You look perfect to me,” Kyle said, shrugging.

“Well, you have to say that. You just slept with me,” she said and he laughed.

“Are you always this…” he shrugged. He was lost for words.

“Yeah, sometimes I am. Especially when I know that I am eating stuff I have banned myself from eating,” she said and he shook his head. He leaned forward and kissed her cheek and then her shoulder.

“Look at yourself and tell me why you cannot see how perfect you are,” he said in a low voice. “You…all your perfect curves and sexy brown flawless skin and…” his voice trailed off as he gently traced his thumb on her cheek. “I never thought I could meet someone that would make me happy again. Until I met you.”

“You literally met me less than forty eight hours ago,” she said as she looked into her eyes.

“Actually I met
